Heckard's Hat Trick Leads Bloomsburg Field Hockey to Win

BLOOMSBURG -- Ashley Heckard (Millertown/Greenwood) scored three goals to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Kutztown and handing the Golden Bears their first loss of the year.

Heckard opened the Huskies scoring just 5:59 into the game off an assist by Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland). The Huskies struck again just four minutes later as Vanartsdalen assisted Samantha Kropa (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) to make it 2-0.

Heckard scored her second goal of the game at the 25-minute mark to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team. Then, six minutes before halftime, Brieanna Wolf (Perkasie/ Pennridge) scored a goal off an Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale/ West Perry) assist to make it 4-0 at half.

Heckard scored her third goal of the game off a Kropa assist half way through the second half to make it 5-0. The Golden Bears (10-1, 5-1 PSAC) finally got on the board when Kelley Healy scored off a Laura Wieder assist in the 56th minute.

Amy Gilbert rounded out the Huskies scoring when she found the back of the net of a penalty stroke with two minutes left in the game.

In goal for the Huskies, Allison Ziants (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) made three saves, while freshman Erin McGinley (Kingston/Wyoming Seminary) made five as they split time.

The Huskies (9-1, 6-1 PSAC) return to action at Mercyhurst on Friday night at 5:00 p.m.
